Kite Size and Board Size Calculator

I had thought about creating a wind range chart that would take into account someone’s weight rather than basing it on the “average weight” of 175 pounds.  However, someone much more talented at math than me has already done this (James Douglass).

Check out his Interactive Calculator!

As you are going through this, please note that winds less than 8 knots and winds greater than 35 knots are not ideal.  Light winds less than 8 knots require a big kite (17 meter/16 meter) and an experienced kiteboarder.  When the winds reach 30-35 knots, only advanced and above level kiteboarders should go out on the water.

Enjoy!
